Intimate London Wedding at The Old Marylebone Town Hall

The Old Marylebone Town Hall wedding photography

“I just wanted to write and tell you how happy Lee and I are with the photos. You have truly captured the day and all the special moments throughout. We love our photos and couldn’t be happier.”

Over the years I have photographed weddings of all shapes and sizes, but when the enquiry first came through for Rebecca and Lee’s intimate wedding at The Old Marylebone Town Hall I immediately got excited and knew I had to photograph this one. Rebecca and Lee were planning the most intimate of intimate weddings. Being from Australia originally, the couple had chosen to marry at The Old Marylebone Town Hall with just their two friends as witnesses. Rebecca and Lee will be flying to Australia next year for celebrations with all their family and friends. The initial enquiry actually came from one of Rebecca’s best friends who was set on making sure the couple had the very best memories of their wedding, and when Rebecca and Lee saw my work they knew they wanted me to photograph their day. Queue warm fuzzy feeling. With just Rebecca, Lee and two guests, blending in was going to be trickier. I’m pretty good at disappearing in a crowd but when that crowd consists of just four people that becomes a little more challenging! The way I approach these small, intimate weddings is to really treat myself as another member of the wedding party. Even more so than usual. A guest lucky enough to be a part of the day. By immersing myself in the day this way my presence is never intrusive and I’m able to still capture real moments with the subjects unconcerned with my actions.

On the day, things didn’t quite go to plan for the couple. Following several Skype chats with her family overseas, Rebecca was a little late leaving her home and that, plus the heavy London traffic, meant the 1950s Citreon DS we were travelling in was late arriving at The Old Marylebone Town Hall. It seemed the couple had missed their slot and for a moment it looked like they weren’t going to be getting married after all. I really felt for the couple and the registrars clearly felt the same because a short while later a new ceremony time had been arranged, albeit not for another 2 hours. But this was fantastic news.

We took a short walk to the Duke of Wellington for a glass or two of Pimms and returned to the registry office shortly before the ceremony was due to begin. This actually made for a wonderful day, giving the couple a little time together before the ceremony to take in everything that was about to happen. Following the most beautiful of ceremonies complete with some really emotional readings (including a surprise reading sent from the father of the bride) it was off to The Wolseley for champagne and dinner. I was only allowed to take a few pictures in The Wolseley so as not to disturb the other guests dining, so I left the wedding party there to enjoy the rest of their afternoon before the couple headed off on their mini-moon.

Rebecca, Lee, it was a honour to be part of your intimate London wedding and if you need a photographer for the Australia leg of your wedding, just let me know 😉

Here are a few of my favourite pictures from their day and a few words from Rebecca and Lee.
