I was really pleased when Deborah and Mike asked me to tell the story of their Tithe Barn wedding in Somerset. Not only had the couple chosen a beautiful barn conversion for the main reception and The Walled Garden next door for their afternoon reception, they had also chosen to hold their ceremony at St Mary’s Parish Church in Orchardleigh. This quaint little church is set in the grounds of Orchardleigh House, surrounded by a tiny moat. There is no electricity to the church and so ceremonies are conducted entirely by natural light and candle light. it’s not the easiest church to find so I was glad that I did my recce the evening before the wedding day!

Deborah and Mike’s Tithe Barn wedding took place on May 4th, which just so happens to be national Star Wars day. Now I’d be lying if I said that a small part of me (ok, a big part of me) wasn’t secretly hoping for a Star Wars themed wedding. Alas the groom didn’t don a Darth Vader costume and there wasn’t a stormtrooper in sight, but the couple did give me ‘Scone Wars’. Devon vs Cornwall. And this addition was a perfect fit for their English garden themed wedding.

It was a faultless day from start to finish; a relaxed couple, some beautiful venues, great weather, a VW camper van, Harley Davidsons and a proper good party in the evening. I love a winter wedding (especially around Christmas time) so I was absolutely delighted when Sophia and Nick asked me to join them at St Audries Park in Somerset to capture their wedding day. St Audries is one of my favourite wedding venues in Somerset and they really do take care of absolutely everything. A perfect day from start to finish.

Sophia and Nick’s wedding took place between Christmas and New Year which meant the Christmas tree stood tall and proud in the main reception room. The couple then introduced some of their own special touches to make the day unique and personal to them. Even the wet weather couldn’t put a dampener on things and the whole day was full of love and laughter. Just my kind of wedding.

Joy and Richard’s wedding was my first as a St Audries Park Wedding Photographer. Originally I was due to meet Joy at St Audries Park in the morning to photograph the bridal preparations, however just two weeks before the big day Joy’s hairdresser cancelled, forcing her to make some last minute alterations. All the girls in Joy’s office immediately rallied around her and they quickly found Victoria Wyatt Hair and Beauty, a trendy Salon in Bridgwater, 15 miles away from her wedding venue near Taunton.

Joy arrived at the Salon with her sister, two best friends and a cheeky bottle of wine, and we took some wonderful reportage photographs there before moving on to St Audries Park for the rest of the preparations. En route I found myself stuck briefly behind an inevitable (but rather annoying) slow moving tractor, so I was pleasantly surprised to find I was the first to arrive. Joy and her friends joined me around 20 minutes later following a brief but necessary McDonald’s pitstop, enough time for me to meet Claire, the friendly front of house manager, and to grab a few photographs of the outside of the venue.

The rest of the day went smoothly. The venue was fantastic, the weather was fantastic and the guests were fantastic, so I will leave it to my documentary wedding photography to tell the the story of their St Audries Park wedding day.
